I’m Jeffrey Merkel — a commercial photographer working with brands that care about how they show up in the world.
I collaborate closely with teams to create imagery that feels honest, considered, and intentional.
The focus of my work is food & drink, product photography, and brand storytelling.
My approach is calm, collaborative, and detail-driven. I focus on the subtle moments and textures that elevate a brand from “good” to unmistakably professional.
If you value thoughtful process, clear communication, and imagery that holds up over time, we’ll work well together!

How I Work
Strong imagery starts with clarity. I begin each project by understanding what the visuals need to accomplish — whether that’s strengthening brand perception, supporting a campaign, or showcasing a product or service.
1. Preparation
Together, we will define and refine the goals and parameters of the photoshoot. This input is the most critical part of a project. Aligning on the vision and how to achieve it comes first, before any photos are taken.
I am tasked with communicating expectations and possibilities effectively and precisely in order to ensure we are fully aligned before shooting.
2. Execution
Each photoshoot varies in scope, but my involvement remains consistent throughout. I’m hands-on at every stage of planning to ensure a smooth, well-organized execution.
This can include creative development, storyboarding, shot lists, studio coordination, talent and crew bookings, props, and any additional production needs required for the project.
On shoot day, everything is clearly directed and scheduled, with expectations and roles aligned and determined in advance.
3. Post Production
After the shoot, I handle all aspects of editing and retouching to ensure the final images meet the agreed-upon vision and quality standards. This includes color correction, cropping, and any necessary adjustments to deliver polished, ready-to-use assets.
4. Project management
I am well versed in managing large photography projects involving up to 300+ deliverables.
I pride myself on delivering:
-
Total consistency across assets (aesthetically and technically - file size, type, settings)
-
Responsible file management (consistent and reliable file naming and organization)
-
Perpetual storage of RAW files, workflows, and final deliverables.
-
Realistic and workable guaranteed timelines.
-
Consistent availability and presence throughout the entire duration of a project.
